20 Questions with JO National Qualifier Avery Grant (Bay Valley)

When it comes to our next athlete this girl holds a special place in my life and my heart. Avery Grant of Bay Valley Academy has been in my life since she was 2 years old, she is one of the most talented athletes I have ever known. Coming from a highly athletic family, Avery came into this world bouncing and tumbling. I knew from a very young age that Avery was a tremendous talent, there was an incident in the beginning of Averys gymnastics career when she was pulled out of a competition because it turns out she was to young to be at that particular level from that day forward she was one to watch. She just absolutely loved being in the gym and on the medal stand. I have been waiting for the day that I would be writing articles, doing features and filming Avery on the gymnastics floor. It has been an exciting ride thus far with Avery and her gymnastics. I cannot wait to see what the next 5 years holds for her, she is an extremely talented young level 10 who has not yet hit the peak of her talents. Avery will certainly be one to watch in the years to come. Lets get to know Avery a little better as she begins her 2nd level 10 season with Bay Valley Academy and Region 5 Gymnastics.

How did you get into gymnastics? How old were you? I started gymnastics when I was 4 years old because my mom is a gymnastics coach and my sister did gymnastics.

What is your favorite event?  My favorite event is vault.

Favorite Skill to train/compete? My favorite skills to train or compete are Jeagers and Yurchenko full’s.

Dream Skill? Double Arabian on floor and Yurchenko double or 2.5

What is your favorite part of gymnastics? I love competition season!

What college do you plan on attending? I am undecided, but I would like to continue my gymnastics at the collegiate level

What is your favorite meet to compete at? My two favorite meets to compete at are Athlete Warrior and Luau in Leos

Biggest accomplishment in gymnastics so far? My biggest accomplishment in gymnastics so far was qualifying to JO Nationals and placing 8th on floor and 14th AA (check out Avery’s Nationals Gallery below)

Who do you most admire in the sport of gymnastics? I do not have any one gymnast I admire the most. I really love to watch good gymnastics regardless of who performs it.

If you were trapped on a deserted island what 3 things would you take and why? If I was trapped on a desert island, I would bring my phone, a slurpee machine, and my mom and dad. My Dad would figure out how to get us off the island and my mom gives the best cuddles when I need them.

What do you like to do outside of Gymnastics?  Outside of gymnastics I enjoy family and friend time as well as shopping.

Most embarrassing meet moment or gymnastics moment?
My most embarrassing moment was last year at MEGA meet. I was doing a giant and caught my big toe on the bar and split it open. They had to stop timed warm-ups to clean up the blood. My coaches said it looked like Greys Anatomy and now it is a big joke. The trainer still remembered this a whole year later.

If you weren’t a gymnast, what sport would you do or try? If I was not a gymnast I would want to be a diver or dancer.

Which athletes (any sport) do you respect the most and why? I respect divers because they flip towards a board and have to basically land on their head in the water. They have to have a lot of courage.

What is the most valuable piece of advice or wisdom your coach has given you? Believe in yourself

Bonus Question: Tell me something interesting about yourself…. A few years ago I had a slate pool table fall on me and slide down my leg.
